Veterans Day in Eagle Butte

American Legion Post 308 members Kermit Dupris, Brett Curry, Karlin Brings Horse, Robert Pretty Boy, David Castle, and Lyle Cook perform a 21-gun salute on Veterans Day in Eagle Butte. Events during the annual program included honoring of veterans who journeyed on this past year. Red roses were placed in a vase as their names were called. A meal was provided by the American Legion Auxiliary and drum group Wakinyan Maza performed songs throughout the event.

U.S. Army veteran Chad Olson wears his American Legion cap and Oyate Ta Akicita Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe jacket which lists wars starting with the Long Knives to current military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Olson attended the C-EB Veterans Program last Friday.

The Gold Star Mothers of Sheldon Hawk Eagle, Tanner O’Leary, Arthur “Bluie” Jewett, and Orlando Roach are honored on Veterans Day. Cynthia Cook, Gilbert Red Dog Sr., Betsy Mitchell, and Lyle Cook accepted roses on their behalf.

Cynthia Cook places a red rose in a vase in honor of the late Leon Red Dog Sr., who was a Vietnam veteran.
