DATES TO REMEMBER:

Notice of loss:  Report loss within 15 days of occurrence all crops and grasses

February 12:  Producer workshop Bob’s Resort Gettysburg

February 19: Office closed in observance of Presidents Day

March 15, 2018: Deadline to obtain NAP

March 31, 2018: Final day to obtain marketing assistance loan on harvested grain wheat, barley, oats and soybeans

July 15, 2018: Deadline to timely certify 2018 spring seeded crops

FSA hiring loss adjusters

The USDA Farm Service Agency is currently accepting applications from individuals interested in providing contracted crop loss adjusting services throughout South Dakota for the 2018 and future crop years.  Loss ad-juster applications for the 2018 crop year are due to the South Dakota State FSA Office by February 9, 2018.  Contact your local FSA office for more information or get an application or online at www.fsa.usda.gov/Assets/USDA-FSA-Public/usdafiles/State-Offices/South-Dakota/pdfs/sdfsa_lacapplication.pdf or by contacting Logan Kopfmann at 605-352-1184 or Theresa Skulzacek at 605-352-1176

PRODUCER WORKSHOP

There is a Producer Workshop at Bob’s Resort on February 12, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. central time with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. 

Presenters include: 

• Stan Boltz – ND/SD Soil Health Specialist

• Doug Sieck – Selby Area Producer

• Kay Schmidt – USDA FSA CED

• Jason Miller – USDA NRCS agronomist

• Taylor Grussing – SDSU Extension

• Tom Nadgwick – USDA NRCS DC

• Marcy Knoble – Marcy Kitchen

The topics covered are grazing off pastures, Water infiltration during droughts, Sieck Ranch story, NAP update, NRCS program sign up dates, Cover Crop impacts on future crops, Quality food comes from quality product.
