The area’s elite youth rodeo contestants will compete in six timed events, including tie-down calf roping, barrel racing, team roping, goat tying, breakaway roping, and steer wrestling. Rodeo youth from across the country, ages 14-19, are eligible to compete for the title.

“We are excited to showcase our area’s top rodeo athletes in front of the State Fair grandstands this year,” said SDTEC committee member, Jason Edleman. “This year marks our tenth year of crowning the champion.”

The overall winner will take home the coveted title of South Dakota Timed Event Champion along with a cash award. Event winners will also receive trophy saddles.

“This is the only youth rodeo at the State Fair and the only one of its kind in the Midwest,” says Edleman. “Contestants and fans travel from across the state and the nation to be at the South Dakota Timed Event Championship. Since its inception, we have had contestants from Minnesota, North Dakota, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, and Texas compete.”
