Threat of government shutdown has the Senate scrambling

According to NPR, NBC, and other news sources, the short-term budget passed by the Senate will not be signed by President Donald J. Trump unless it includes language funding the $5 billion border security plan, which includes the building a wall along Mexican and American borders.

“We’re going to move today to add language to the bill that the Senate sent over on government funding to add $5 billion for the wall, as well as the disaster relief funding that’s been agreed upon by both the House and Senate for the hurricanes and the wildfires,” said House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La.

“At this moment, the President does not want to go further without border security, which includes steel slats or a wall. The President is continuing to weigh his options,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders had said in a statement announcing the meeting, according to NPR.
