Monday was the official first day of spring and with the mild temperatures, it sure feels like it. With the warmer temperatures this late in March, it might be safe to say we are in the homestretch with winter in our rearview mirror. With that said we still are in South Dakota, and one thing that is certain about the weather; it can be unpredictable.
With the optimism of spring ahead, we here in Cheyenne River should also start thinking ahead. We are one month from Earth Day.
With the piles of snow this past winter, and mechanical failure causing a delay in garbage pickup for a period, the garbage is out there. We need to as a community begin planning for a spring clean-up.
Earth Day was a motivating date to shoot for as cleanup activities were held on this day in the past. The last few years, planning for a community clean up kind of fell by the way side but let’s change that.
I challenge our residents and community leaders from all across the reservation to come together and again hold a reservation wide clean up. We live in God’s Country, let’s take pride in our communities and show our youth that we care about where we live.
Let’s come together and see what we can do.
