Two Dupree High School wrestlers competed at the recent South Dakota High School State Wrestling Tournament at the Premier Center in Sioux Falls, February 24-26. Sophomore Eulayla Maynard pre-qualified for the tournament based on wins in previous matches. Maynard competes in the High School Girls 113-pound division. Britney Rueb of Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon Girls took first place in this weight class. The Pierre T.F. Riggs girls won the tournament. The Cheyenne-Eagle Butte/Dupree girls team ended the tournament ranked 40 of 42 ahead of Chamberlain, Bennett County, Britton-Hecla, Clark/Willow Lake, Flandreau, Garretson, Groton Area, Mobridge/Pollack, Potter County, and Sioux Falls Washington. Tripp Schrempp, ninth-grade, placed 4th at the Region 3A wrestling tournament in Milbank on February 19. Based on this performance, Schrempp and went on to the state tournament. Schrempp wrestles in the High School Boys 126-pound weight class. Ayson Rice of Canton took first place in the weight class. Brandon Valley won the Class A tournament. The Cheyenne-Eagle Butte/Dupree boys team ended the tournament ranked 31 of 31, tied with Pine Ridge. Tee Birkeland placed 5th in the 106-pound weight class at the 3A regional meet. Wrestlers much place at least 4th to qualify for the state competition.
