Paul Schweitzer

Mass of Christian Burial for Paul Schweitzer, 82, was held at 1:00 PM MT, Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Timber Lake. Burial was at the Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation began at 5:30 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM Friday at the church.

Paul Peter Schweitzer of Timber Lake, SD was called home to Heaven, January 12th, 2016.  He was residing at the Good Samaritan Center in Selby, SD at the time.  Paul was born on the farm at Glencross, SD on October 17, 1933 to Elizabeth (Senger) and Michael Schweitzer, the oldest of 5 boys.  He attended schools in at Glencross, SD and Richarderton, ND and eventually returned to work with his Dad and brothers on the family farm.  During this time he met who he called, “his brown eyed beauty”, Joann Dahlke and married her on April 22, 1954.  To this union was born 11 children.

Paul’s passion was selling cars – – starting with Glader’s in 1960, then bought Timber Lake Motors in 1963, working for Lindskov Automotive 1987 and finally, retiring in 2006.  Almost 50 years of being a car salesman.  One of our Dad’s favorite quotes was, “how much do you owe on that vehicle and how many miles does it have on it?”  Until his final breath, he was still selling cars and we are sure he has found a new clientele in Heaven.
Outside of selling cars, Dad / Grandpa also enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his kids / grandkids.  Paul never passed up a home cooked meal so long as it DID NOT involve green beans and ended with chocolate. After supper he could be found behind the table shuffling the playing cards and waiting for the rest to join him.  Whether dice, cards or whatever game, and we are not saying there was cheating going on but he always managed to win when he sat by Mom.  His other passion was to make sure he was at church every Saturday night in the same pew, a half an hour before Mass, even if he did nod off a time or two.  His smile was very contagious and rest assured a snarky remark would soon follow.
Paul is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joann and his children: Julie (Chuck) of Estelline, SD, Robin, daughter-in-law of Watertown, SD, Terry (Nancy) of Mobridge, SD, Patty (John) of Timber Lake, SD, Steve (Robyn) of Isabel, SD, Ronnie (Kimm) of Presho, SD, Pam of Timber Lake, SD and Joel (Sarah) of Timber Lake, SD and 21 Grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren.  Paul is also survived by 2 brothers: Ed (Mary) of Mobridge, SD and Mike of Sioux Falls, SD.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Mike & Elizabeth, 2 brothers, Frank & Wayne,  children, Delores, Mary, David and an infant son, 3 Grandchildren Samantha, Thomas & James and son-in-law, Jim.
