Kyle SD – Oglala Lakota College announces its 46th Annual Graduation Ceremony on June 16, 2019 beginning at 10:00 a.m. 148 graduates will be receiving Masters, Bachelors, Associate Degrees and Certificates at OLC’s administrative campus seven miles southwest of Kyle, SD.
President Thomas Shortbull stated, “At OLC we consider this to be one of the most important days of the Oglala Lakota Nation. June 16 is a day to celebrate the hard work and success of the 148 students presented to you on this day.”
This year’s keynote speaker is Martin “Marty” Waukazoo, CEO of Oakland Native American Health Center in California. In 1973 Marty graduated from Black Hills State University and moved to Oakland. He has established community clinics in Fresno and Sacramento in California. He is the founder of the California Urban Health Consortium. Marty organized the funding and construction of the Seven Directions medical and dental facility along with 38 units of family affordable housing built on the 4th floor. When in high school Marty played for the Rapid City Cobblers. In 1967, he was a Prep All-American, led his Cobbler team to 2nd place in the State A basketball tournament along with being the tourney MVP and on the All-Tourney Team. He was elected into the South Dakota Basketball Hall of Fame.
Other distinguished speakers to address the graduating class are Thomas Shortbull, OLC President, Julian Bear Runner, Oglala Sioux Tribal President, and Dennis Brewer, President, OLC Board of Trustees.

The Graduation Powwow and Contest will run June 14-16 with registration beginning 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14 and closing on Saturday, June 15 at noon.
