Construction is underway for the new CRST Youth Horsemanship equine center in Eagle Butte. WoLakota Construction LLC is the contractor that is currently working on phase one of the project. According to company co-owner, Spence Etzkorn, the building materials used for the center are energy efficient and durable.
“The walls are three inches of insulation with four inches of concrete on both sides of it. It’s the best insulation you can have. Usually there is stud, insulation, stud, insulation. This is not like that. The building will be warm in the winter, cool in the summer. This building will last longer than a metal building,” said Etzkorn.
CRST Game, Fish, and Parks Director Dennis Rousseau said that the equine center will consist of an indoor arena, an office, and will provide much-needed space from the weather elements for the CRST Youth Horsemanship program. Currently, the program operates seasonally, and does not have horsemanship classes during the winter months.
According to Rousseau, the equine center is scheduled to open next year.
