National Native American Veterans Memorial Design Selected

On June 26, the “Warrior’s Circle of Honor” design concept by Harvey Pratt (Cheyenne/Arapaho) was unanimously selected by the jury for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian National Native American Veterans Memorial.

The jury report stated, “This design is culturally resolute and spiritually engaging. The circle is so profoundly important in all Native cultures that the supreme strength of this design is its ability for all people to connect with it and find meaning in it. There is no better way of honoring cultures that believe in this circular nature of life to the core of their being.”

The memorial will be located in Washington, DC on the grounds of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, between the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum and the U.S. Capitol.

The groundbreaking for memorial is scheduled to take place on September 21, 2018 with a dedication ceremony slated for fall 2020.

This is the design concept for the National Native American Memorial, which will be located in Washington D.C. Harvey Pratt (Cheyenne/Arapaho) designed the memorial. The year 2020 is the projected completion date for the memorial.
