Moreau Grand celebrates 71 years

Moreau-Grand Electric Cooperative celebrated 71 years on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017. The theme for this year’s annual membership meeting was “Building For The Future”.

The annual meeting was held at the Timber Lake Public School with 142 members going through the registration line.

The evening began with the Holy Cross Altar Society of Timber Lake serving a barbecued beef supper to 284 members and guests. Following the meal, the Elite Energy Cloggers entertained the membership. They were followed by the kids drawing and movie for our younger members.

Reports were heard from Board Secretary-Treasurer Lois Bartlett, President Larry Hieb, Manager Melissa Maher, and 2017 DC Youth tour recipient Abby Martin.

Featured speaker Ed Anderson spoke of the importance of membership involvement at the local, state and national level.

This year’s Good Neighbor Award recipients are Dale and Terri McLellan.

The membership elected three directors to serve on the board. District 2 Ryan Maher, District 3 Kelly Landis, District 5 Kerry McLellan.

Washington D.C. Youth Tour representative Abby Martin thanked the membership for the opportunity and reported on her activities during the tour.

The membership voted to not change the bylaws by a vote of 98-16.

Service awards were presented to: Directors Royce Walker – 25 years and Lois Bartlett – 10 years. Employees Cap Pearman – 30 years, Kent Larson – 25 years, Hunter Smith – 5 years, Jace Vrooman – 5 years.

Door prizes were given throughout the evening with the big winners as follows:

• Kendyl Locken – young members’ prize.

• Cash prize winners were Larry Stapert, Lance and Denise Willison, Ina Boldt, and Judy Garon

• 43” flat screen TV – Walt Johnson

Following the annual meeting, the board held a reorganization meeting for the purpose of electing officers. Those selected were Larry Hieb – President; Paul Lawrence – Vice President; and Lois Bartlett – Secretary-Treasurer.

Moreau-Grand appreciates the Timber Lake Public School for once again allowing the use their beautiful facility to host the meeting. Special appreciation to our members for taking time out of their busy lives to participate in their electric cooperative business.
