Minnesota Lt. Governor Flanagan will deliver the keynote address at the South Dakota Democratic Party’s (SDDP) annual fundraiser, McGovern Day this Friday. Flanagan’s remarks will support SDDP’s renewed focus on engaging rural voters and “building back better” coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event will feature several speakers, including DNC Chair Jaime Harrison, Remi Bald Eagle and SDDP’s incoming executive director, Berk Ehrmantraut. McGovern Day will also honor former United States Senator Tim Johnson with a lifetime achievement award for his incredible work on behalf of Democrats in South Dakota throughout his career.
“We have a lot to celebrate at this year’s McGovern Day dinner,” said Randy Seiler, SDDP chair. “Democrats hold the majority in both chambers of Congress and the President’s office, which has already made the passage of critical legislation aimed to help rural America recover from the pandemic possible. As we are coming out of the global pandemic, corresponding economic crisis, and witnessing the vision and direction of the Biden Administration, together we are seizing the opportunity to build back better. This is a once in a generation focus on rural America from the DNC, and here in South Dakota, we’re launching massive organizing plans across the state to register new voters and connect with South Dakotans on what matters to them most.”
This year’s event will be a hybrid celebration, with both in-person and online options to participate. Event guests attending in person will be served heavy hors d’oeuvres outdoors. The event includes a silent auction, vendors from allied organizations, and a VIP happy hour including party leadership. Casual dress is encouraged.
