LOWI school hosted open house Saturday; temporary location at CRYP

A small gathering of parents and supporters met at the CRYP Main for the Lakȟótiyapi Okáȟtaŋ Wičhóičhaǧe Inc. (LOWI) open house.

The Main is the temporary location for the new Lakota immersion school that will officially open its doors for twenty kindergarten students January 14, 2019.

According to board-appointed secretary and volunteer Renee Iron Hawk, the the school will have one classroom teacher with twenty students. R. Iron Hawk took visitors on a tour of the small facility, revealing two administrative offices, restroom facilities, a kitchen, and a potential play room in addition to the classroom/lunch room.

Principal Manny Iron Hawk said the school is currently looking to hire a kindergarten teacher fluent in Lakota. The school will also hire a cook, and once they have accquired a small bus, a bus driver.
