To the Editor,
I was so moved by your story of Brad and Paul’s visit to Cheyenne River. Your storytelling was vivid and visceral. I felt like I was there with you, and I sensed the depth and the tension of what the people experienced that day. I know several other people who read your article and were also touched by it.
I have been working closely with Basil Brave Heart for the last year to support this work of apology and forgiveness. It has been a huge learning experience, and I am honored to participate.
My family lives near Doko’o’osliid, in Flagstaff. Brad has told me that you are Diné – we are blessed to live on your homeland. If you ever come down this way, please know that we would love to have you visit us.
All my best,
We want to say Wopila Tonka, sister, for your excellent account of the events of a week ago. Your honest writing and photos really inspire us to continue on with this ancestral healing effort. We also consider meeting and speaking with your husband Remi as a real inspiration.
