Lady Tigers fourth in LMC tournament

Timber Lake reclaims conference championship


After falling to Lemmon the last two years in the championship game, the Timber Lake Lady Panthers reclaimed the conference championship, defeating the top seeded Faith Longhorns in a battle to the final buzzer 32-30. With the game tied at 30 and time running out, Loryn Schoelerman sank a shot at the buzzer to break the tie and give the Panthers their first conference title since 2012.


Dupree


Just two weeks after losing the Highway 65 showdown to the Tigers of the north, the Dupree Lady Tigers upended McIntosh 40-36 in the opening round of the Little Moreau Conference Girls Basketball tournament this past weekend in Lemmon. Dupree came into the tournament with the number five seed, while McIntosh was the number four.


On their previous matchup on January 8, McIntosh won 49-38. On Thursday it was Dupree’s turn as they jumped out to a 12-8 first quarter lead and maintained a five and six point cushion at the next two-quarter breaks. As time expired, Dupree celebrated their fifth win of the season and handed McIntosh their third loss of the year.


Dupree senior Makenzie Dupree and junio Camryn Ganje led the Lady Tigers with 10 points each. Reese Ganje put up eight and Bailee Birkeland knocked in six points for Dupree. Markee Shaving added four points and Aubree Stevens finished with two. Lauren Baumberger led McIntosh with 18 points. Brynn Dynn Walking elk put in 10, Kaylee Bertolotto six, and Madison Meyer put in two points to round out the McIntosh scorecard.


Semifinal


In the semifinal round, the Lady Tigers were paired up with top seeded Faith.


After only trailing by four points at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Tigers managed only four points in the second quarter as Faith doubled their score to open up a 14 point margin at halftime. Dupree put up 12 points in the quarter however Faith continued to score and further the gap.  As time expired the Lady Longhorns defeated the Lady Tigers 55-35.


Camryn Ganje led Dupree with 10 points followed by Sage Brooks who finished with eighth points. Reese Ganje who put up six points and Bailee Birkeland and Makenzie Dupree finished with four-points each. Mia Paris rounded out the scoring with three points.


The Longhorns were led by Shali Sheridan who finished with nine points.


Third/Fourth Place


In the battle for third place, the Lady Tigers squared off with Lemmon Cowgirls on Saturday. Dupree trailed only by one point at the end of the first quarter 8-9, however the Cowgirls turned up the offense in the second quarter, outscoring Dupree 25-12 to open up a 14 point lead at halftime.


The Lady Tigers scored only five points in the third quarter as Lemmon extended their lead to 20. The fourth quarter was the biggest quarter for Dupree as they scored 14 points, however Lemmon scored 15 pushing their lead to 21 and winning 39-60.


All-Tourney


Camryn Ganje was selected to the LMC All Tournament team. Ganje joined Sydney Maher, Sydnee Mettler, and Loryn Schoelerman from Timber Lake; Shali Sheridan and Kailyn Groves from Faith; Morgan Ham and Bailie Beer from Lemmon; BrynnDyn Walking Elk out of McIntosh; Brianna Williams from Harding County; Sydney Senn of Bison;  and Sunni Rousseau from Tiospaye Topa.


Newell


Following the LMC tournament, the Lady Tigers traveled to Newell on Monday night to take on the Irrigators. The Lady Tigers won 53-35.


Dupree has a busy week ahead as they travel to Philip on Thursday and will host Lemmon on Saturday. Next Tuesday, the Lady Tigers will be in Timber Lake
