A dream come true is how KIPI Radio Station Manager Thom Eagle Staff described the grand opening of Cheyenne River’s first radio station, which took place in Eagle Butte on Friday, August 31.
“To us, the grand opening was the fruition and realization of a dream that started back in the 1980’s. It is an entity that will provide service to not only Cheyenne River, but also the surrounding areas with news, weather, educational content, and entertainment,” Eagle Staff said.
Speakers were set up outside the radio station and over 150 people witnessed the ribbon cutting ceremony, which was conducted by the KIPI Radio Station Board of Directors.
According to Eagle Staff, a free lunch of grilled hot dogs was served to all those in attendance.
‘‘We hope that we’ll be here for a long to serve the community,” Eagle Staff said.
