High Elk honored for perseverence

Lois High Elk, a resident for the Northern Hills Training Center was honored for her excellent progress with a certificate and a trip to visit the Santa Crus/Monterey Bay through TRIPS Inc. at the center’s 43rd Annual Awards Banquet April 6, held at the Spearfish Holiday Inn and Convention Center.

High Elk has accomplished a 360 degree turn-around concerning her health. She is insulin free, she has excelled in her motor skills she is now able to participate in track, basketball and baseball and can ride a three wheel bike. High Elk, or “sister,” works four hours a day, has her own bank account and can shop independently for food, clothing and other necessities as needed.

High Elk’s certificate reads, “Be someone’s strength. Be someone’s inspiration. Be someone’s reason to never give up.”
