Gyla Jandreau, 61, of Eagle Butte, died Thursday, November 19 in Eagle Butte. There will be wake services at Eagle Butte Community Center on Monday, November 23, at Lower Brule Community Center on Tuesday, November 24 and funeral services at 11:00am, Wednesday, November 25 at Lower Brule Community Center, with burial to follow at Holy Angel Cemetery, Presho, SD.  Arrangements have been placed in care of Isburg Funeral Chapel.  Online condolences may be written at 

Gyla Antoinette Bagola was born August 23, 1954 to Cora Long Mandan and Guy Bagola at Cheyenne River Old Agency.  She attended Cheyenne River schools and graduated in 1972 from C-EB High School. She also attended Haskell Indian College and Northern State following High School.

She met Bill Jandreau in 1974 and they were married in 1976 at Dallas, TX.  They moved to Iron Lightning, SD in the fall of 1977. 

Gyla took employment with the BIA Department of Social Services, then she moved to Land Operations, and then into the Fire Management Program.  She enjoyed her work and her co-workers. She just recently celebrated 38 years as a BIA employee at her home agency – Cheyenne River.  Although she struggled with Rheumatoid Arthritis for many years, she did not know quit.  She worked hard every day of her life and did her best every day of her life.

Gyla enjoyed cooking and feeding all of her family. She loved to have family get togethers where she was surrounded by her family.  She always wanted to make sure everyone had a good meal and a good time.  She very much enjoyed being a grandma and enjoyed all her grandchildren and took much pride in each and every one of them. 

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and wife.  Her friends were many and she loved and cherished those friendships very much.

Gyla is survived by her husband of 39 years, Bill of Eagle Butte, SD, son Smokey Jandreau of Eagle Butte, SD, daughter Sheyenne Jandreau (Galen Eberhard) of Eagle Butte, adopted daughter Michelle LeBeau of Ft. Yates, ND, sisters; Laura Bagola of Eagle Butte, Eva Jost of Citrus Heights, CA, Hilda (Hap) Marshall of Thunder Butte, SD, and Susie (Steve) Payne of Stugis,SD; brother Melvin Bagola of Eagle Butte, Uncle Bob (Janice) Mandan of Iron Lightning, SD, Rozelle Little Soldier Family of Twin Buttes, ND, Special Friends – Marcy Miner of Eagle Butte, Marsha Tibbitts of Pine Ridge, SD, Joyce (Terry) Pourier of Pine Ridge,SD, Georgine (Mitch) Pourier of Rapid City, SD. She had many people in her life that were special to her.

Preceding her in death are Austin Boyd Janis – she raised and loved him as her own, her Dad Guy Bagola, Mother Cora Long Mandan Bagola, Grandparents Eugene and Lillian Long Mandan, Sister Esterline Low Dog, Brother Nathan Bagola, Uncles Chauncey Mandan, Delaine(Duane) Mandan, Niece Robin Elaine Coleman, Adopted Sister Patsy Maynard, and many other family members from the Cheyenne River and Lower Brule Reservations.

The family wants to extend their gratitude to everyone.  Pilamaye
