George Lorenzo Whirlwind Soldier, age 72, passed away January 7, 2017 at the White River Nursing home. George leaves behind three sons, five daughters, eighteen grandchildren, two sisters, and numerous nephew and nieces that he loved and cherished. He is preceded in death by his mother Evelyn Gertrude Andrews; father Pius Peter Whirlwind Soldier I; Brothers Clement, Zeke, Louis, and Pius II (Poncho).
George truly lived the Lakota way, giving and helping when and where he could until the day of his passing. George was a fluent Lakota speaker who enjoyed dancing, drumming and singing traditional music; visiting with elders, playing pool and reading.
Please join us in celebrating the Life of George Whirlwind Soldier on Saturday, April 7, 2018. We will be gathering at St. Catherine Cemetery in Bad Nation South Dakota at 10:00 am to bless the headstone. A dinner and giveaway will follow at the Bishop Jones Building in Mission S.D. starting at 1:00pm.
