Ziebach County Register of Deeds, Amanda Washburn, is currently under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
The FBI agent handling the investigation was unable for comment as of press time.
Cheryl Laurenz-Bogue, the State’s Attorney for Ziebach County, said that the county Register of Deeds office has re-opened for business since closing two weeks ago due to the investigation.
Hours of operation for the office have been affected by the investigation. The Register of Deeds office is now open only on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. — 3:00 p.m.
According to Ziebach County’s last meeting minutes, Heidi Stevens from Perkins County will be covering the position and duties normally assigned to Washburn.
Washburn was elected as the Register of Deeds in June of 2016 with 54% of the votes, defeating Callie Henderson-Zeiler.
No official information has been released about the reasons for or nature of the investigation.
“It is under investigation and I am not at liberty to comment,” said Laurenz-Bogue.
