Elsie Doris Boehrs was born December 25, 1934, in St. Joe, Arkansas to Frank and Mabel (Middleton) Harris. She attended Riggs High School in Pierre, going on to attend LPN schooling at St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre.
On March 23, 1953, she married Clarence “Swede” Edward Boehrs and moved to their ranch outside Eagle Butte. Later in life, they built the Plains Clothiers Store in Eagle Butte and moved to town. Due to medical problems, she along with her youngest daughter Loree, moved to Pierre in 1977. After her husband retired from the clothing store, he joined her in Pierre until his passing in 1988.
In 1992, Elsie moved to the Black Hills of SD to be closer to her youngest daughter Loree, who at the time was working as an RN at Fort Meade VA Medical Center. Due to her failing health, and her wishes to never be placed in a nursing home, she moved in with her daughter in 2013, where she lived up until the time of her passing on Saturday, September 23, 2017. Elsie was a long-time member of the Eastern Star Chapter in Fort Pierre, and was very proud of that.
