Early Childhood Screening for children Birth through Pre-Kindergarten Age

The Dupree School District, in conjunction with Northwest Area Schools Educational Cooperative, has scheduled its annual Early Childhood Screening for children aged birth to pre-kindergarten.

Screenings will be held Tuesday, October 19, 2021, from 12:30 PM to 3:40 PM MT at the Dupree School.

The screening is free. The screening will assist parents and guardians to help their children prepare for school.

The screening involves hearing and vision and an assessment of development in the areas of speech/language, motor, and cognitive development.

The purpose of such a screening is to detect delays in children’s development that could affect success in school. The earlier any difficulties are detected, the sooner the school and parents/guardians can work together to help children overcome any problems.

The results of the screening will be discussed with the parents/guardians that day.  If delays are suspected, plans for a more thorough evaluation will be discussed. Results may lead to an individualized program designed to help the child develop skills needed for school.  These services are available for qualifying children at no cost to the family.

Screening your child is the first step to ensure school success.  Please bring your child, aged birth through pre-kindergarten, for this free screening!

If you have questions or concerns, please call the Dupree School at (605) 365-5140 ext. 244 or Northwest Area Schools at (605) 466-2206.
