Eagle Butte man charged with first degree murder

Corbyn Big Eagle of Eagle Butte has been charged with First Degree Murder in the June 16 stabbing death of 18 year old Austin Miner in Eagle Butte.

Court documents show that CRST Tribal Police Officers responded to a call at the Evergreen Apartments. There they found Miner lying on the floor of Big Eagle’s apartment bleeding from his chest.

Miner was transported to Eagle Butte Indian Health Service Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses at the scene stated that Miner and Big Eagle were engaged in an altercation prior to the stabbing.

According to the court documents, Tribal Officers found a knife that had been recently washed with what appeared to be blood on it.

Big Eagle was arrested at the scene and was being held at the Walter Miner Adult Detention Center before being taken into custody by the U.S. Marshalls Office, where he is being remanded until trial.
