In last weeks edition of the West River Eagle it was reported that the Eagle Butte Co-op shut down “in protest” of the violation they received from the Emergency Executive Order #2.7-2020-CR. As of press time last week staff at the West River Eagle had not had contact with the Eagle Butte Co-op and was only able to present the facts that were known.
The Eagle Butte Co-op is a long standing business located on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation but operated under a board of directors who needed to look carefully at how to proceed, on September 1st the co-op reopened after being closed four short days and is now open for business as usual.
This situation is not unique to the Co-op, many businesses are wading through how to operate under the executive order as there is not a lot of guidance on how individual situations should be handled. The co-op was one of several businesses that received a notice of violation for the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe.
