Recognizing students for their intelligence and effort in the classroom as well as their integrity and moral character is a big part of the membership process for the Dupree High School National Honor Society induction. This year’s induction ceremony was held on Monday, April 15.
The DHS National Honor Society welcomed and inducted just four members, Megan Hinrichs, Shelby Knife, Kateri Matonis, and Malory Peacock during a candle lighting ceremony with pledges to uphold the strong character guidelines that the NHS represents. These four students were eligible to apply based upon the minimum 3.0 GPA requirement, and then were selected based upon their NHS Student Activity form/application by a five-person selection panel.
The present NHS members, under the advisement of Connie Alspach, Gay Mraz, and Patty Peacock, led the ceremony. The 2018-2019 members able to attend each took a part in the program and everyone watched a PowerPoint show about the service projects performed by the group this year.
Russell Budmayr, the Dupree JH/HS Principal, was the guest speaker for the evening.
Entertainment came from DHS senior Kelci Bends when she got up and sang a solo while playing her guitar.
In closing the ceremony, seniors in NHS shared their future plans and were presented with NHS honor cords and book scholarship gifts from the NHS.
A poem was read and NHS President CL Pederson hit the gavel a final time for this year and then everyone was encouraged to go through the line and welcome the new members.
Attendees were invited to stay for refreshments in the cafeteria.
