The Dupree Elementary Student Council recently sponsored a “Non-Perishable Items Food Drive”. The drive was held between December 7 through January 5.

Each school day a tally of how many items each class had brought in was made so that the classes could compete and challenge each other. The chart was in the hallway for the students to keep track of their class’s progress. As each day passed, the students brought more and more to help those in need. The class that brought in the most items would win an ice cream party!

When the drive ended on January 5, a total of 1,179 non-perishable items were donated by Dupree students. Some of the boxes of food were delivered to the Sioux YMCA in Dupree and the other boxes will be delivered to the Eagle Butte Homeless Shelter.

Mrs. Sydney Maher’s third grade class will enjoy the ice cream party as they donated a total of 254 food items to the cause, more than any other class.

The elementary student council, advised by Ms. Brittany Brooks and Mrs. Sydney Maher, is very thankful for the generosity of the students/staff and their families and they are very proud of the elementary student council for finishing this project so successfully.
