Dupree School District hosted a going away party on the last day of school to send off three of its employees to other ventures, Superintendent Brian Shanks, High School Principal Pandi Pittman and Elementary School Teacher Josh De La Rosa.
The superintendent and high school positions have already been filled, with the new Superintendent Gale Swenson and High School Principal Russell Budmayr.
The school board approved all of the 2018-2019 contracts for next year’s staff at the May board meeting.
In 2016, schools across the state were struggling to find and retain teachers for various positions, with technical education programs and special education at the top of the needs list for schools.
Dupree is a part of the Northwest Area schools cooperative, and their special education and technical teachers and courses are provided through the NWAS cooperative.
The 2016 teacher shortage seems to have been eased by the increase in salary pay teachers received as a result of the half cent tax increase in 2017, helping Dupree enter the new school year with one less concern for 2018-2019.
