Dignity to appear on special license plates

PIERRE — South Dakotans will have a chance to own license plates that depict the sculpture “Dignity.” The S.D. Senate unanimously approved a bill designating the special plates on Wednesday.

Speaking in favor of the legislation, Sen. Troy Heinert, D-Mission, called the sculpture that overlooks the Missouri River near Chamberlain “South Dakota’s newest landmark.”

Heinert said the sculpture signifies respect and celebrates the state’s cultural diversity. Putting an image of the sculpture on license plates would be the best way to “share her beauty and meaning with people across the country.”

The bill now goes to the House.
