DHS student wins InterTribal art contest

HIGH ELK

Maria High Elk, a student at Dupree High School, had her art entry win first place in the InterTribal Buffalo Council Art and Essay Contest.  Of just over 30 entries, some of which were DHS students that Mrs. Gnene Fordyce worked with through her high school English classes and then submitted their work, High Elk’s piece took first place and she won $500 for her work.  Other students placing in the art division were Hannah Brunsch from Little Wound High School with second place and winning $250 and Jorryn Buckman from Little Wound High School who won $100. In the essay division, there were 60 entries and the winners were as follows:  Gillian Lunde from Standing Rock High School won first, Winona Gayton from Standing Rock High School took second place, and third place went to Viridiana Lucina Arvizu of Broken Bow High School in Oklahoma.
