David Francis Kennedy


Mass of Christian Burial for David Francis Kennedy “Iktomi” age 50 of Eagle Butte, will be 10:00 AM Friday, May 17, 2019 at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte.  Visitation will be Thursday, May 16, 2019 beginning at 5:00 PM with a Scriptural wake service at 7:00 PM. Family and friends are asked to meet at the 4-mile junction at 4:00 PM to follow to the church. David passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.  Kesling Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

David was born January 8, 1969 in Eagle Butte, SD, the youngest of four children born to the late Rodney and Francine (Miner) Kennedy.

David was born and raised in Eagle Butte, SD. He attended school in Eagle Butte until he graduated high school in May of 1987. After high school David attended a semester of college at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, before coming home to help his mother take care of his father who was diagnosed with MS. Later David went back to college at Presentation Lakota Campus in Eagle Butte to get his Associate Degree in Business.

On July 12, 1991 David married Lori Lawrence in Eagle Butte, SD and from this union there were three children Autumn Nicole Maupin, Caleb Thomas Kennedy, Sydney Ellen Kennedy before their divorce on August 4, 1997.

On May 30, 2002 David married Trisha Lynn Rousseau at the Dewey County Courthouse in Timber Lake, SD, with just a handful of family and friends to witness their special day. From this union there were three children, Jonathan James Rousseau, Kameron Micheal Rousseau, Patrick Paul Kennedy.

David is survived by his wife of 16 years, Trisha Lynn Kennedy, six children, three grandchildren, Chole Francine Kennedy, Leonardo James Yellow Horse, Camden Bane Kennedy, as well as three brothers Tony (Carrie) Kennedy, Daniel Kennedy, Mike Kennedy and one sister, Jackie (Shawn) Decory and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephew, and Cousins.

David was preceded in death by both his parents, and grandparents.
