Current COVID-19 Response Plan Level 3
As of this printing the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe reservation is still at Level 3 of the COVID-19 response plan, but the rise in cases could cause this to change soon.
Applications can be made for the $500 Vaccine Incentive program for tribal members at www.crstcoronavirusupdates.com/.
Regardless of the incentive, it’s imperative that everyone get vaccinated. Vaccines are available through IHS or CRST Field Health at (605) 964-0772.
Cases on CRST are up from 22 to 62 as of August 24, 2021. The 7-day average of active cases is 35.71. First shots of the vaccine given are 3,696, second shots are 3,287, for a total of 30.93% of the population fully vaccinated.
As of August 3, 2021, there were three cases of COVID-19 caused by the Delta variant on Cheyenne River, placing children and elders at increased risk. While breakthrough infections for those vaccinated are rare, the Delta variant is more contagious and easily transmissible than the original virus.
According to a statement by the Chairman’s office on August 3, “The SD DOH has also indicated that due to the lack of testing it should be assumed that 50% of all positive cases are the Delta variant.”
In South Dakota 48% of the population is vaccinated. This number has not changed for the last three weeks. Nationwide 61% people have received their first shot and 52% people are fully vaccinated. About 73% of all adults have received at least one shot, an increase of about one percent since last week.
The leaderboard for fully vaccinated adults stands at Vermont 77.4%, Connecticut 76.6%, Massachusetts 76.0%, Maine 75.7%, Rhode Island 74.5%, New Jersey 72.8% and Maryland 72.8%.
