Current COVID-19 Response Plan Level 3

Things of Note:

Cases went up from 3 to 6 on CRST this week, and one person has died. Vaccinations are underway for anyone living on CRST. You do not have to be a tribal member to get one. First shots given: 2,826. Second shots: 2,587. In South Dakota 44% of the population has received their first shot, and 35% are fully vaccinated. Nationwide 42% of the population has received one vaccine shot, and 29% have had the second shot.

India is suffering an explosion of cases and people are dying before they can get to the hospital. The world is watching to see if a new vaccine-resistant variant will emerge from the crisis. Vaccines are generally available in developed countries and in more affluent populations. Marginalized communities and communities of color have fewer people getting vaccines.

Now is not the time to relax your vigilance! The CDC announced new guidelines for mask-wearing on April 27. Masks are no longer required outdoors or at small outdoor gatherings with family and friends who are fully vaccinated. It’s best for those who are not vaccinated to continue to observe social distancing. Those who are fully vaccinated can take part in outdoor activities without a mask, and should still wear a mask to indoor activities.
