Braves take down McLaughlin and St. Francis as Kohlus hits 1,000 career points mark



The C-EB boys picked up two wins this past week, one on the road and one at home improving their record 13-5 on the season with two games left to play. The Braves defeated St. Francis on Saturday 84-78 and McLaughin on Thursday 80-41. C-EB will be on the road this Saturday to face a tough Pine Ridge squad and will be home on Monday to finish the regular season against Mobridge-Pollock. The Braves are currently sitting second in the region behind Chamberlain.

On Saturday, the Braves found themselves near Nebraska as they faced the St. Francis Warriors. The Braves defeated the Warriors 84-78. Grant Kohlus who finished the game with 31 points led the Braves. In the second quarter, Kohlus hit a career milestone surpassing the 1,000 point career point mark.


After the first quarter the Braves led 17-10. The Braves had an explosive second quarter, scoring 35 points to take a 25 point 52-27 lead into halftime. 


Despite the 25-point deficit, the Warriors didn’t roll over in the second half, as they cut the C-EB lead to 13 points at the end of the third quarter, as they outscored C-EB 26 to 14. In the fourth quarter, the Warriors pulled within six points of C-EB before time expired.


In addition to the 31 points, Kohlus finished with nine rebounds and four steals. Wyatt Jewett put up 18 points for C-EB and Brexton Traversie finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.


Daniel Eagle Road led St. Francis with 15 points, while Shane Witt added 13 and Mahpiya Horse Looking finished with 10 points.

McLaughlinOn Thursday night, the Braves hosted the McLaughlin Midgets for their annual parent’s night. 


After trailing by two points after the first quarter, the C-EB offense roared into action outscoring the Midgets 22 to 14 with the help of a flurry of three-pointers. Grant Kohlus, Wyatt Jewett, Dayson Kohlus, and Jessup Yazzie each hit a three to help ignite the offense while taking a 31-25 lead into halftime.


The Braves hit four more threes in the third quarter to push the six-point lead to 22 points. 


In final quarter, the Braves defense held the Midgets offense to only eight points while seven Braves players put points on the board as the game moved down the stretch. When the final buzzer sounded, the Braves racked up 80 points while holding the Midgets to 41.


Grant Kohlus led the charge for the C-EB with 21 points while Brexton Traversie finished with 12.  Wyatt Jewett and Dayson Kohlus each finished with nine points and Kaytonna Bartlett put up eight points.  William Brown Otter and Dorian White led McLaughlin with 12 points each.
