On Cheyenne River, the Albers name is synonymous with athleticism, football, and basketball.
Falcon Albers is no exception and carries on this family legacy. Many know Albers from his days playing basketball for Red Cloud High School, then for his time playing for Dakota State University.
Albers is the son of Terry Albers, an enrolled member of Cheyenne River, who is also a local sports star, known for his years playing football for Cheyenne-Eagle Butte High School.
On May 5, Albers graduated from DSU with his degree in Exercise Science. For Albers, accomplishing this goal does not mean the end of his basketball career. He currently works with the Sacred Hoops Program, coaching development training camps for the youth.
In an over-the-phone interview, Albers said his next goal is to play professionally overseas. He said he is working on improving his fitness level and conditioning, and will attend as many professional basketball combines as possible.
Reaching his goals took commitment, hard work, and dedication– things that Albers wants others, especially the youth, to understand and prepare for in life.
“It’s going to be a fight. When it gets hard, keep pushing through. It’s all going to be worth it in the end. Our people need more leaders and people to look up to. You’re going to be very happy when you reach the end,” Albers said.
