“You will see things that you wouldn’t normally see at regular rodeos. It’s one of the most fun things you can go to,” said event organizer Kody Woodard.
In its’ third year, the Rope, Ride & Slide has become a favorite annual event among rodeo fans.
The event, held in Dupree at the Pioneer Days Rodeo Arena, will kick off at 5:30 PM with social hour and an exciting NFL-style draft during which 16 invited top-ranked bronc riders and bulldoggers from the SDRA and PRCA Badlands Circuits will be drafted by event sponsors.
The main event will start at 6:30 PM where athletes will compete against each other in their respective events, after which the unique aspect Woodward spoke about will occur – the competitors will be teamed together to compete in team roping, an exciting showcase of their all-around rodeo talents.
The top five teams will then advance to a short go.
This year, there will be $2000 added purse in each event.
Other events include a calf roping scramble which will pit three participants in the arena with nine calves, the winner being the first person to successfully rope and tie down three calves.
Features this year will be a youth calf scramble and a wild steer riding contest, which will consist of 3-man teams who will rope, saddle and ride a steer across a finish line.
New this year will be a 21-and-over calf scramble, where participants will attempt to pull a ribbon that is placed between a steer’s horns.
Gate fees are $10 per person or $25 per car load. Kick your heels up in the beer garden after the performance. Concessions and bar will be open courtesy of the Pioneer Days Rodeo Committee.
Stock contractors are Longbrake Rodeos, Sean Deal, Joe Gunderson, Joey Waln, Kling & Heading, Rorey Lemmel & Cleve Schmidt, and Wilson Rodeo.
“We just want to put on a good show and for everyone to enjoy themselves. Come on out and have a great time,” said Woodward.
