Eagle Butte

1st Annual Just Breathe Suicide Awareness Youth Basketball Tournament

Just Breathe Suicide Awareness held the 1st annual youth basketball tournament for grades fourth through sixth in Eagle Butte on Sunday, April 14.  Seven area teams competed in two divisions.  Medals were awarded to the champions in both division as well as every participant receiving a suicide awareness t-shirt.

The Just Breathe Suicide Awareness campaign was started in 2015 by Sha’Teal Pearman to bring awareness to the epidemic of suicide in our youth and teens.  The non-profit organization raises money to provide scholarships to a high school seniors in Eagle Butte and Dupree, as well as sponsoring other youth awareness activities and sponsorships.

The non-profit encourages high school students to join the fight as ambassadors of the program.  Our ambassadors are required to volunteer for the hosted activities as well as participating in several community projects throughout the year.  The ambassador’s hours are logged and recommendation letters are provided to help aid in scholarship opportunities for our seniors. We currently have about fifteen ambassadors in two schools representing their communities.  For more information on becoming an ambassador or donating to our non-profit contact Sha’Teal Pearman or Nicky White Eyes or check out our Facebook page @JustBreatheCampaign.
